(Race Report John Hammer)
This evening Tuesday 20th June saw Arcane Women’s CT host the Corkagh Park Women’s League .
It was encouraging to welcome new riders to the venue also great to welcome back recently absent competitors .
The racing commenced with the B race again divided into B+ and B groups .
The B+ group saw 5 riders who included Annie Roche & Irene Yeriskin ( Scott Orwell Wheelers CC ) Bernie McNally Brennan (Swords CC , Eva Mc Kenna ( Clane CC ) Gill Haverty ( Arcane CT ). The quintet started 1 minute before the B group of ten riders who I will get to in due course .
The B+ only remained together for two laps when Annie Roche attacked in the home straight on the third lap she got a gap but it never extended over 20 seconds and her B+ rivals upped their pace and brought the Scott Orwell Wheelers CC rider back the early effort and the increase in pace early in this race seemed to have a detrimental effect of the five B+ riders as when they were caught by the B group they were soon found wanting with the exception of Gill Haverty who rode well in the group .
The riders of the B group had taken 13 minutes of racing to catch the B+ group , the race began in earnest with Eva Brennan ( Deenside Wheelers ) Angela Hoare ( O C C ) with Noreen Mallon ( Arcane CT ) all sharing the work on the front driving it along in good style some other riders also did their bit to keep the bunch moving among them Agnieszka Samsel ( Clontarf CC )caught the eye on occasions both working and attacking off the front on a couple of occasions only to be brought back but her efforts are noted for the future . The other Clontarf CC rider Susan Fagan rode her usual solid race .
It came down to a sprint from the bottom corner on the home straight there was little doubt of the result as soon as the Ossory CC rider got a couple of lengths clear of the chasers Angela Hoare who showed fine form last week finishing 5th set sail and won snuggly from theArcane CT pair of Noreen Mallon and Gill Haverty who recovered from the earlier efforts the remainder of the bunch finished close ,
The A+ saw 4 new riders to Corkagh Park all attached to ( Talent Transfer Team VeloFem ) they were Hilary Hughes , Orla Fox, Claire Ni Reachtagan & Mia Griffin they were joined by Murina Walsh ( Scott Orwell Wheelers CC } Sinead Molloy ( Tullamore CC ) Grace Irvine ( Arcane CT ) and Lyndsey Bryce (DWCC) also in the line up was Blanch Wheelies rider Loraine Mc Gill
The A quartet saw a trio of Arcane CT riders made up of Roisin Kennedy , Melanie Spath & Beata Golczak and Jennifer Bates ( Clondalkin CC ) ‘
The A + group worked well together remaining away from the A group for most of the contest but this would be expected with four team members amongst the group .
The A race could have been a more cagey affair with 3 Arcane riders opposing the sole Clondalkin CC Rider Jennifer Bates but in fairness the tactics applied did have a somewhat favourable outcome for the Arcane Club . Having started a minute behind the A+ group the Arcane rode solidly trying to close the deficit with Jennifer Bates sitting on for the most part she launched one of her usual solo attacks from the group t but was chased down and caught within half a lap by Melanie Spath who then rode past Bates – it took some riding by Roisin Kennedy ( Arcane CT) to regain contact with Spath and Bates the two groups now formed one bunch and remained together until the sprint which was won in good style by Mia Griffin (Talent Transfer Team VeloFem ) Melanie Spath held on for second . Tullamore CC rider Sinead Molloy took third spot .
Pro Rider / Former World Champion & Arcane Women’s Team Sponsor Martyn Irvine presented the prizes on the night .
Bernie McNally Brennan won the Combative Award in the B race
Jennifer Bates won the combative Award in the A race .
