This weekend, two of the largest clubs from Connaught will host Ladies-only leisure events in the West. These events will be an ideal opportunity for racing cyclists to start winding down after a busy season, and for non-racers and beginners to meet like-minded women in a social setting.
First up is the Innisfree Wheelers Ladies Tour of Lough Gill on Saturday 24th September. The start and finish for this event is at the Sligo Park Hotel, Cornageeha, Sligo. Sign on will open at 10 am, for an 11 am start. This event is aimed at women of all abilities, and will be led at a steady pace. No cyclist will be dropped, and full support will be provided along the 40 km route. The club will be using the event to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis North West Therapy Centre in Sligo.
Then, why not head on to the Lakeside Sports and Fitness Club in Ballinrobe for the Western Lakes Ladies Lap of Lough Mask on Sunday 25th September. This event kicks off with registration from 8 am, with a briefing at 9.45 am and a start time of 10 am. Sign on fee is €20 with proceeds going to the Children’s Department in Mayo General Hospital. Again, medical and mechanical support will be provided along the 64 km scenic route and refreshments will be available at the finish.
Riders attending either event should bring their Cycling Ireland licence if they have one. Bikes must be in good working order and helmets are compulsory. No earphones or tri-bars are permitted.
