Taggart Retains White Jersey As Team Fight Back On Stage 3

Nikki Taggart held on to the lead of the White Jersey on Stage 3 of the Women’s Tour of Omagh after a dramatic fight back from her Women’s Cycling Ireland Team in the final 20km.

Early attacks saw the Women’s Cycling Ireland team stretched over three groups, and with Taggart & Eva Brennan distanced from the leading group as the race entered the final third of the stage.

A charge led by Nessa Rochford & Michelle McKinney saw them join Eva in the chasing group of 12 to 14 riders. With Nikki waiting for her Team mates, group 2 on the road had it all to do with most of the leading riders (Including all the Jersey holders) a min clear .

The Women’s Cycling Ireland Team worked well with help from other riders (Including Cycling Leinster) to put them on the back of the cavalcade with about 5km to go.

With the Jersey safe, they forced their way to the front for the sprint finish, with Nikki taking 6th, Eva 9th, Nessa 10th, & Michelle 11th despite their long chase.

The Women’s Cycling Ireland Team now hold the W3 Leaders Jersey, Third in the Team Competition, Second in the U23 Competition, Third in the Masters Competition with one epic stage to go.

Todays Stage was Won by Sharon Bird (Balymena Road Club) .
