The Women’s Commission Intermediate League was to start on Saturday in Clonard with the Rás Naomh Finian – due to unforeseen circumstances and the recent updates on the Cov19, Clonard CC have to postpone the race.
The Intermediate League is open to W2 & W3 Riders only , and is aimed at bridging the gap between our Introductory Racing Events and the National Road Series.
The League has been instrumental in the increased numbers taking part in Women’s Open Race events (Over 100 Women took part in last years Intermediate League).
Last Years event in Clonard saw Irish International Autumn Collins (Torelli UK) Win from a huge Bunch Sprint ahead of Mary Daly (Westport) & Caoimhe O’Brien (Lakeside Wheelers). Autumn (Now a W1 Ranked Rider) will not be back to defend her title, but Caoimhe O’Brien (Now Torelli UK) will hope to take the top step of the podium for Torelli in Collins absence.
The Results from the Opening Womens Ulster League Event on Saturday cannot be ignored, with Nikki Taggart winning ahead of Maia Simmons (Bike House) & Lynn Shields (Spires). Taggart is on a fast track to the top tier of women’s cycling after a return to the sport mid last season. Nikki will have a full Arcane Women’s Team behind her on Saturday, but they will be on the defensive against the TC Racing Team after their strong showing in the Phoenix CC event.
Last years Intermediate League Winner Lucy O’Donnel has graduated to the W1 ranks, and is not eligible for 2020, however runner up Elia Tutty will be one of the riders to watch along with Michelle McKinney (Galway Bay CC) & Claire Ní Reachtagain (Sundrive Track Team)
