After the dust has settled from the National Championships, the fifth round of the Irish National Downhill Mountainbike Series was held in the ever-popular Rostrevor, Co. Down. Although there were smaller numbers of women entering this round, it didn’t stop fast and furious racing down the Rostrevor technical trails.
Lets hear from winner Katie Purvis:
1st Katie Purvis, 2nd Lois Black
The track used for round 5 of the IDMS at Rostrevor was incredible. A lot of hard work had been put in to the previously used champs track to make it even better to race on. The rain the night before made up for some slippy race conditions, especially with the track being made mostly of rock.
It was very challenging from top to bottom, but that’s what made it most enjoyable.

The event was ran exceptionally well with some great facilities surrounding the area. Unfortunately not many women had entered meaning very little competition for us girls.
However I am still pleased with my time winning the women’s category by 1 minute 26 seconds and placing higher than a large number of the males times.
I will definitely try and get across to as many IDMS races next season and recommend them to anyone looking to race downhill, especially the women!
