O’Donnell At The Helm After Dramatic Stage In Deenside

Lucy O’Donnell (Kanturk CC) blasted her way back into the League Leaders Jersey on Round 5 of the Intermediate League in Deenside on Sunday (April 28th).

O’Donnel had been in pole position after her win in Newcastle West , however Elia Tutty (T.C. Racing) had opened up a Two Point advantage at the top going into the Deenside Cup.

On the day O’Donnell went clear on the first time up the hill with a five rider break over a chasing group holding at 30 to 57 seconds for the remainder of the race.

Lucy & Yvonne Doran (Orwell Wheelers) pushed ahead on the final climb , with Junior Rider O’Donnell winning the Sprint to the line .

Michelle McKinney (Galway Bay CC) led home the chasers for third .

Elia Tutty battled hard to defend her Leaders Jersey (after a wheel change), and now lies only a single point behind O’Donnell,  however she still holds a possible Bonus Point over O’Donnell going into the final events.

TC Racing lost the leaders jersey, but placed two riders in the prizes with Niamh O’Dwyer in 4th & Niamh Stephens in 5th.

Lucy O’Donnell now leads the Intermediate League by a single point over Yvonne Doran and Elia Tutty in third, however Doran is already top of the Women’s Cycling Ireland W2 Rankings, and may have competed in her last W2 / W3 Event .

Ninety One Women have competed in the opening five rounds of the Women’s Commission Intermediate League ,

The Next Round will be the Emyvale Grand Prix, hosted by Emyvale CC.
