The Women’s Commissions Pauline Russell announced exciting new changes to U16 Girls racing in Munster on Saturday (16th December)
Pauline hosted the prize giving of the O’Sullivan Cycles 2017 Munster League and took the opportunity to announce exciting changes to the popular ‘Women’s Commission’ event for 2018 .
Pauline launched the Munster U16 Girls Mentoring Program . A number of elite Irish women have already added their name to helping out the up & coming young U16 riders in 2018.
Emma Walsh (Waterford CC) and Orla Desmond (TC racing) were the first Elite volunteers to lead out a series of spins aimed at improving the knowledge and expertise of the next generation of Munster cyclists.
Emma & Orla were assisted on the day by local cycling Coach Conor Kissane (Killarney CC) who planned a route suitable for such training.
Girls had travelled from Waterford, Cork , Dingle and Killarney with great enthusiasm for their sport , and they set out on a challenging spin , with all enjoying the event ,
Pauline insured that a support vehicle , and all safety regulations we’re adhered to , and she was delighted to see the women out on the road – “they turned heads , getting second glances as they returned to a busy Killarney with plaits flying in the wind” .
Over the coming week the girls will travel to Waterford , Cork and Kenmare to meet and train.
“Thanks to everyone especially the Senior women giving their time , the girls really appreciate it”.
