The Women’s Commission had a great start to the new season , with fifteen riders competing in an International Omnium on Monday night (January 7th).
The task of getting such a large team , bikes & equipment to the start line was only possible thanks to our experienced Coaches , Managers & Rider Leads .
The squad consisted of experienced Track riders , four juniors , and Elite riders competing on an indoor velodrome for the first time ever.
Legendary Manchester Cycling Coach (Former Velodrome Manager) Bob Barber prepared the riders on Sunday night with drills that replicated the racing ahead.
The event would not have been possible without Tony Orrell (Torelli Racing) . Tony prepared all the groundwork with the ACT Manchester League , and invited International Teams and riders to make it a memorable event .
On the night , the Irish women were divided into three teams of five (With all riders starting at least four events) .Cycling Ireland Coaches Martyn Irvine , Róisín Kennedy & Brendan Whelan took charge of a team each , with very positive results from all line-ups .
The Women’s Commission will be returning to Manchester in the coming months , and will be asking for an expression of interest soon.
