Irish International Autumn Collins was in Track Action in Germany in the first week of July – Read her Rider Race Report Below:
“I had entered the The Forst (Lausitz) GP (U23 women’s racing ) – a Derny Omnium event with a very strong field.
I visited the track the day before the event and did a few efforts , it was a steep outdoor velodrome which was very different to my home Sundrive Velodrome Track .
The banking into the finishing straight was very bumpy and had some patch work style repairs on it , however , once I rode it a few times I realised that it was fine , and I had no more apprehensions about racing on it.
The Scratch Race was the first event and it was lined out from the gun, my positioning going into the bell lap was awful and I just rolled in with a lesson learned.
There was a strong Russian team at the event and they all took turns attacking the bunch, and keeping the pace very high , and I was very happy with my form over all events.
I have recently switched focus from sprinting to endurance , and while the racing was hard work and I did struggle , I knew it would stand to me .
I followed up a week later with a decent performance at the Sundrive GP.
The race organizers of Forst were probably the most welcoming I have ever experienced and all the riders were extremely well looked after.
I’m also very thankful for the Women’s Commission for their tireless support”.
