Following the success of the paralympic squad in the Beijing Paralympic Games there has been a buzz of interest in the team. In 2008 a women’s tandem of Catherine Walsh and her pilot Joanna Hickey raced in the Paralympic Games, coming 5th in the pursuit. There are many opportunities for athletes with disabilities to compete at this high level, ad be part of an exciting and challenging programme. In the case of a tandem, there are also opportunities for able bodied women to compete, as the pilot, or “eyes” on a tandem.
