LOOKING FOR A CLUB

If you are looking for a club to join, the best thing to do is to go into your local bike shop and ask about the local clubs, and where they meet for training spins.

WONDER WHAT GROUP TO CYCLE WITH

As a guideline most women are capable of cycling with one of the groups in most clubs. Usually the Vets are the best people to cycle with, they are a steadier pace, and you can learn a lot. Usually club spins cover anything from 40km up. If you can cycle for about an hour on your own you are at a level of entering a club, and progress will come from there.

WHAT DO I WEAR

It is important that you dress correctly in order to get the most out of your training spin, and overall enjoyment of the sport. A rule of thumb is keep your skin covered while the temperature is under 15 degrees. While you can build up a sweat on the bike, your legs and arms can get quite cold in the winter months. Again if you go to bike shops they can guide you – but for me a lifesaver in the winter are overshoes, decent gloves, and a good windbreak jacket for descending.
