DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
The women’s development programme has been an integral part of women’s cycling over the past few years. We organise two leagues, organise a series of coaching days, and support a racing programme.
We have developed a structure that is proving successful, whereby riders are introduced to racing at The Boot Inn, from there they progress to the more challenging National League. A squad attends coaching days and teams are selected to race in target competitions.
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Women’s Cycling is a developing sport in Ireland. While the number of women racing is not particularly high – it is steadily increasing. It is widely accepted that the standard of racing in any sport improves when there are more competitors.
For this reason the Women’s Commission has established a Development Programme for the riders. The programme was revised in October 2008, opening the training camps up to more women, including Junior and Youth, while tightening up the criteria for selection for Irish Development Teams that will be racing overseas.
