On the back of a good block of training in Aigle, the Cycling Ireland elite team will travel to Cali, Colombia for the World Cup. The women’s team of Caroline Ryan, Ciara Horne and Jennifer O Reilly will be looking to gain points to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in the Team Pursuit and the Omnium, while the men’s team of Martyn Irvine and Felix English are focusing on the omnium. Finally we see an Irish girl wearing the rainbow jersey.. first of many we hope. Was super to see the strong Irish team return with their pockets full of medals, and a world champion title to boot! Aideen Collard was laden down with 4 medals from her week of racing, and Orla made history wearing the jersey! It’s easy to read the website and imagine what you can do – it’s a whole other game going out and doing it – well done to you both! Gallery here

Olympic silver medallist Wendy Houvenaghel added a Commonwealth Games silver to her collection last weekend with a super performance in the individual pursuit. Racing the New Zealand rider Alison Shanks, the Northern Irish lead for half the race, before Shanks inched ahead to eventually win by just over a second.

Maryland Wheelers rider Heather Wilson came 5th in the points race at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The Northern Ireland track rider gained a lap on the field with four others, and came in just behind top riders like Tara Whitten (CAD) and Katie Colclough (GB)

Saturday 14th August – women’s team sprint champs – teams of minimum two riders from same club… it will be great to have a team event on the National Championships Programme – this is still a demonstration event, and will be demo until the number of competitors increase, so we urge you to please support the event, and encourage your teammates and friends to support it to.
