21 ladies signed on for the second of the 2 Swords races. The rain cleared and the wind eased off just in time for the race to start. The circuit was shortened to 20k due to the evenings closing in and because of this the pace was fast right from the line. (more…)

Hotel Proprietor and Ras na mBan race sponsor Louis Moriarty may have provided us with comfortable modern apartments with every amenity, a fabulous choice of breakfast and most excellent coffee in a silver coffee pot, but he could not hold off the rain on saturday morning when the girls headed out from Sneem Hotel on their first training spin of the weekend, when they recce’d the first and second stage of the Ras na mBan. Rita Boyle wins NPS Rd 5

On a windswept rolly course which tested the mettle of all racers today, it was Rita Boyle who blew away the opposition with an incredible display of strength when she got away halfway round the first lap and held a gap which hovered around the minute mark for much of the race.  Quick results below, full report later.. The Wicklow League, sponsored by Winning Solutions.ie, Ultimatesports.ie and the Womens Commission, had an exciting finale tonight.  Gutsy riding by U12 Naoise Sheridan tonight netted her the win in Round 5 of the Wicklow League, while Eileen O’Sullivans 3rd place (Sorrento) ensures her the overall victory.  Quick results and overall, full results and report to follow.. The Irish Elite Women’s team finished the final 2 road stages of the UCI 2.2 Rabo Ster Eilanden 3-Day in very windy conditions. The wind caused havoc along the twisting lanes resulting in many crashes and spilts in the bunch affecting some of the Irish riders on both days. (more…)

The Irish Elite Women’s team lined out today in the 180 strong UCI 2.2 Rabo Ster Eilanden 3-Day. The 3-Day Race started today with a 7.1km time trial around the coastal town of Vlissingen. Windy conditions, typical of Holland, made the technical course challenging for the riders (more…)

Ashling wins Rd3, photo Brendan Culleton

 

The future is looking bright for womens cycling with up and coming junior Ashling Fitzpatrick (Slipstream) winning the third round of the Wicklow League.   Ashling and  second placed Joanne O’Shea (Sorrento) rode strongly together throughout the race with Ashling getting away at the end to take the win just 13secs clear of Joanne.  (more…)

It’s been a great few days for our elite International riders, with a silver medal in a World Cup time trial in Spain by the paralympic pair Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan, followed by 8th place in the road race.  Meanwhile, Siobhan Horgan had a podium finish in the final of the Coupe de France when she got away in a break of 7 and got third in the sprint finish – fantastic result! The road racing National Champs are coming up fast, taking place on the 26th June. The TT takes place on Thursday 24th June, 2 days before the road race. Last years nationals were a great success with greater numbers taking part than ever before – we have more women than ever racing, but we need your help to keep the momentum going and take part in what should be the biggest event of the year. Cait (right)on the marathon podium

In treacherous and rainsoaked conditions, Cait Elliott (UCD) rode a storming race to get 3rd in the UCI ranked British National Series race in Margam Park at the weekend, a great result in difficult conditions.  And if that wasn’t enough, she went on to take 2nd in the longer half-marathon race the next day!  Cait reports: (more…)

Roisin Kennedy wins Rd 1 of Wicklow League

It was a case of Deja Vu for Roisin Kennedy (Lucan) as she won the Time Trial that was Round 1 of the Wicklow League, repeating her fine win from the outset of the Orwell League. Catherine Devitt (unattached) took a fantastic 2nd place with a very impressive performance and it’s great to see her make such a leap of improvement since the league last year, definitely a rider that’s going places! 3rd was the familiar name of Orla Hendron (Orwell) who concluded her unofficial tt ride from Dublin with the league tt and as usual managed to impress.
