It’s great to see women making their way in all facets of the sport – a recent article in Cycling Weekly showed that the first woman, Josée Larocque, has sat (and passed) the Sports Director Course in UCI, and will now be DS for SpiderTech 2012. Pat McQuaid, head of UCI, is particularly supportive of women in cycling. Article HERE

The Women’s Commission AGM will take place in the Carlton Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin on the 23rd October (Sunday). The AGM will take place at 3pm and we would encourage as many people as possible to attend. The following positions are up for election: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Development Officer. Junior Aoife Sheridan (Orwell) broke free of the pack to take the win in Round 4, with Fionnuala ni Bhradaigh (Bray) taking second and last years league winner Eileen O’Sullivan (Sorrento) in third.  Fiona Crean and Deirbhle Ivory (Bray) held off the stampeding pack to take 4th and 5th ahead of scratch rider Roisin Kennedy (Lucan).  7th place was good enough for Ailbhe Ivory (UCD) to hold onto the lead in the overall league, to take the winners trophy home as she did 2years ago.  Full results and links to photos:

Another fine performance by Fiona Cooke of Marble City Cycles saw her improve on last weeks 5th place to take a clear win in Rd 3.  Ailbhe Ivory (UCD) had to settle for 2nd once again, while Ania Krol of Orwell motored into 3rd, holding off Charlotte McDonald 4th, Rachel Glendon 5th and Naoise Sheridan 6th (all Orwell). Orwell Wheelers CC in conjunction with the Women’s Commission and Sundrive Track Club is delighted to announce two Ladies Track Training Days on Sundays 26th June and 24th July 2011 at Sundrive Road Track, Eamon Ceannt Park, Dublin 12.  The Training Days are open to female riders of all ages and fitness levels.  (more…)

Rachel Glendin (Orwell) solo’d from her group tonight to win alone in fine style, while behind her we were treated to a thrilling sprint for the podium places by Ailbhe Ivory (UCD) and Rachel Kaye-Mellor (Orwell), both sprint specialists, with Ailbhe throwing her bike over the line just ahead and taking 2nd.  (links to photos added)

The opening round of the Wicklow League was a tough hill time trial which produced a very close finish, which promises a fascinating battle for position in the next 3 rounds. Roisin Kennedy (Lucan) just pipped Caroline Conway (Usher) by one second for the win, with Anne Dalton (Orwell) hot on their heels in third. (more…)

Wicklow Womens League

The Wicklow Womens League takes place each tuesday in June, 4 tuesdays in all, beginning with a 2.65mile hill time trial up Killiskey hill next tue, 7th June. The following 3 weeks will be a handicapped race on the usual 2.9mile circuit, just outside Ashford village, (more…)
