Cuchulainn hosted the first round of the Women’s National League in Dundalk this weekend. A good turn out ensured exciting racing, with Usher’s Gillian McDarby taking the bunch sprint from Bohermeen’s Geraldine Gill. Roisin Kennedy of Lucan took third place, with Mandy Collie (Team Basso Today’s Cyclist), Sandra Fitzgerald (Stagg’s Lucan) and Orla Hendron (DTC Orwell Wheelers) completing the top six. The National League (sponsored by Zoo Salon and Louis Garneau clothing) provided very tight racing this year, with record numbers and more strength in depth than ever before. There were 6 rounds, with the 5 best results to count, and points going down to 6th place in each race, with handicap points for newbies and juniors. (more…)

Rita Boyle wins NPS Rd 5

On a windswept rolly course which tested the mettle of all racers today, it was Rita Boyle who blew away the opposition with an incredible display of strength when she got away halfway round the first lap and held a gap which hovered around the minute mark for much of the race.  Quick results below, full report later.. The current ranking is now here. After three rounds of the National League the joint leaders are Fiona Guihan (Navan) and Jenny McCauley (Bray). The new points system  appears to be working well, with handicap points being awarded per race. Please note that riders are expected to finish the race to get their points. (more…)

The Womens Commission are proud to present an all-new National Team Series of events for 2010.  This is a first for this kind of competition in Irish womens cycling and hopefully will encourage you all to get a gang together and try for a team prize!  The stage races chosen are carefully selected as being suitable for riders of all levels to compete in and should make for some close competition. Round 1 of the Mountainbike National Points Series(NPS) took place in Saggart in perfect conditions on a tight and gnarly course that everyone agreed was huge fun and tested the abilities of all riders.  Melanie Spath(MAD), having competed in the Ras Mumhan stage race last weekend, showed her class by winning the elite ladies race from Cait Elliott(UCD) who is riding into form and finished less than 3mins behind, with Jenny McCauley(Bray) rounding out the top 3.  Agata Tamulewicz(MAD) won the Sports category from Rose Griffin in 2nd and Gillian Ryan taking the 3rd podium spot. Bohermeen Cycling Club will promote the 1st round of the ladies national league this Sunday 21st March as part of the Waller Cup Program of races @ 1pm. The sign on for the race will be in Mchughs Pub, Greetigh, Bohermeen. The race will consist of 4 laps of a fairly flat 9.5 mile circuit. (same route as last year.) (more…)

The final round of the Zoo Hair Salon and Louis Garneau National League took place in Enfield this morning – hosted by the ever accommodating IVCA. The 10 mile test against the clock saw a slight shuffle in positions in the top six – with Michelle Geoghegan from Orwell securing the overall win. (more…)
