Hi Rachel,

Heather passed on your message to me, as I wrote the article above. As per my article, I only got into Audax a couple of years ago; have to admit I haven't done very much since PBP!

I have found it really suits the kind of cycling I like to do, and if you are used to ultra events then the concept and approach seem to be quite similar. Rose Leith, who also came to Audax from an ultra distance running background, has an account of the New Forest 1000 is in the Audax pages on the Sorrento site.
You don't have to be with a club to do Audax but it's a good idea to join Cycling Ireland or similar as an individual (if you don't want to be club affiliated) so that you are covered, otherwise we have to take an extra payment from you at each event for insurance. There's more info in the FAQs on the Sorrento site. If you want to have a chat about it feel free to give me a call, or you can find Rose's contact details on the Sorrento site as she is club secretary. Sorrento is currently the home of Audax Ireland.
All the best, happy cycling.
Mieke

Hello Heather,

I was very pleased to find your article and I hope it will enable me to break into Audax cycling. I am a former ultra distance runner who has changed to cycling, and I didn't know there were any long distance events outside of the 'tours', and especially for women.

I may well take your recommendation and join the Sorrento Club, but this would take quite alot of travelling, as I live in Fermanagh.

What I am writing to you for, is to find out if we can enter Audax races unattached, without being part of a club. And I also wonder if you know where we go to to find out about the races.

I am very enthused by finding your website, and I hope I can be another small addition to the force of increasing womens' cycling.

Thank you for you article,
and thank youfor your time,
Rachel Pierce
