Note the entries for the Gorey 3 Day are now open. The 180 rider limit fills up really fast so I would encourage anyone entering it to enter immediately. This is a super stage race for women – it is only open to A3 riders, but anyone who could handle Rás na mBan is capable of racing it. The stages are roughly 100km per day – with a 4km TT thrown in on the second day – in a shell!! Entry form here

The Trader’s Cup on 26th February is the first chance for the women to officially dust off the racing cobwebs, eye each other up, assess where they are… it is the first women only race of the season. The Women’s Commission are encouraging anyone interested in Road Race to support this race, as it is a perfect pre-league race, only 51km and on a nice 17km loop. Women will be divided into two groups, which is a great in the early races for the less experienced riders. (more…)

Date for your diaries – 20th May is the Northern Ireland Ladies Championships. While the Championships can only be contested by Ulster riders, all women are welcome to compete in the event. Check out last year’s event here.

North Down CC are promoting the event, and would love to see more cross-border, and indeed cross-channel women competing in this event! Photos from last year here

The Talent Team 2020 Girls had their first off road training camp last weekend in Tollymore, Co. Down. After a morning on the trails the group sat through a series of presentations regarding nutrition and training.

The Talent Team 2020 is an initiative to give a select group of young riders the tools to enable them to perform to their potential, with a view to competing for Ireland at the Olympic Games in 2020. The focus age group of the riders interested in competing is 12-16 years old, and anyone interested in trying out for the team can contact Orla Hendron through queries@womenscycling.ie and she will advise you of the process.

The health of women’s cycling at an international level is evident by yet another increase in the number of UCI Women’s Teams registering in 2012. It is likely that some of this increase is related to the lead up to the Summer Olympics in London. Check out this link – our own Siobhan Horgan is on Team GSD Gedion, and Olivia Dillon rides for Exergy Twenty12 . here
