Siobhan Horgan, following a successful appeal, raced in the World Road Race Championships today. The top international rider was riding comfortably in the bunch when her front wheel was damaged by the rear mech of a rider in front, forcing her out of the race. This was hard luck for the Irish rider who has been competing at the top level over the past few years. Post race interview with Siobhan can be found HERE

The Women’s Commission AGM will take place in the Carlton Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin on the 23rd October (Sunday). The AGM will take place at 3pm and we would encourage as many people as possible to attend. The following positions are up for election: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Development Officer. An Post Rás na mBan is a festival of racing in Sneem, so over the weekend the kids from Sneem Cycling Club participated in skills, crits and time trials, along with offering a neutralised lead out to the Senior Races. (more…)

The team of Jill Leonard and Adrian O’Connor have recently moved back to Ireland, and brought with them the expertise, gadgets, and artistic eye! Due to lack of coverage at the weekend – the reports from the last four stages of An Post Rás na mBan are all below in reverse sequence. A huge congratulations must go to race organisers Valerie Considine and Louis Moriarty (Sneem Hotel), who put so much work into making this event a success. The sponsorship from An Post made a big difference to the event on many levels also, and the super racing from all the riders ensured it was a super event! National Champion Siobhan Horgan performed strongly throughout the 6 Stage Tour de l’Ardeche last week, to come 26th overall in an event won by the outstanding Emma Pooley from GB. Horgan was controversially omitted from the Irish Team that was announced for the World Championships in Denmark next week, despite the good form that she was been showing this season.

In the race around Ireland this weekend, an all woman team has entered. Team Pocket Rocket ready to go on their One Lap Race around Ireland. An all women 4 person team is set to start the grueling 2100km Race Around Ireland from Navan on Sunday. Tricia Tobin, Hazel Hall, Imelda Tully and Sheila Browne will attempt to cycle this event sanctioned by the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association World Cup series, and will be hoping to smash the current women’s record that stands at three days, 19 hours and 29 minutes held by a team from Northern Ireland the Bike Dock Belles.
