Round 4 of the Wicklow League saw all the bunches come together on the last lap to set up a mass bunch gallop. Orwells Sandra Telford made a brave lone attack for the finish in the last mile, but the bunch was too attentive to allow the break to succeed. Kate Rudd was a clear winner of the massed bunch sprint, in front of young Ailbhe Ivory once again showing her sprinting prowess and easily beating more experienced riders Jenny McCauley into 3rd and Roisin Kennedy in 4th. Performance of the night however must surely go to young Kayleigh Gibbons who at 13 years old stayed with the lead riders and produced a fantastic finishing sprint, finishing 5th! Siobhain Duggan came 6th having opened up her sprint just a little too far out, followed by Rose Leith. (more…)
On Satruday 11th July the Track Commission will be coinciding the launch of the newly renovated track with the very popular International Track Meet. This year we are fortunate to have two Dutch women’s teams attending the competition, and we are encouraging all the Irish girls to come out and race – how great it will be to have a huge field of women racing on the track!!!! The Women’s National Championships in Road Racing takes place in Dunboyne this weekend. For those who haven’t taken advantage of the discounted early entry – you can enter on the day – make sure you bring along your race license, and number. Map of the course HERE . Race headquarters is at the Dunboyne GAA club – just outside the town, race starts for the women at 12.05 – so be there good and early to sign on and so on. (Give yourself at least an hour).
Recently we had a Junior Woman, Alisa Fitzpatrick, representing Ireland at the European Championships for Indoor Cycling 2009. Alisa came 11th in the event, read on for her report on the sport, and competition – shortly I will add some photos of her competing – very impressive stuff!! (more…)

Just a reminder that the 3rd round of the Womens Wicklow League takes place this evening Tue 16th, directions below. These are handicapped club-race length races (4 -5 laps of a 5km circuit) with the one big difference being that you are racing against other women instead of the usual hordes of men! This is the third race in a series of 6, so still plenty of time to get involved. (more…)

Navan CC hosted round 5 of the Zoo Hair Salon and Louis Garneau National League today, as part of the Sean Nolan GP. In what ended up being a very eventful race, junior rider Mary Costelloe took the uphill sprint at the end of the 50 mile race. REPORT ADDED. (more…)
Olivia Dillon, 2008 National TT Champion, came 4th in yesterday’s stage – despite racing with a small cast on her hand, having come down in an earlier stage!! Wicklow League Round 2 9/6/09
Siobhain Duggan took 1st place in Round 2 of the Wicklow League in an exciting sprint finish, pipping an in-form Rose Leith who took 2nd and a hard fight for third place gave the podium spot to Catherine Davitt over Eithne Dalby in 4th.
Read on for details of the Mullingar Criterium that is being run in association with the National Bike Week! The race is on a 2km lap circuit around the town, and lasts just over 30min. The women’s only race has prizes and primes up for grabs. A criterium is a race that is run on a short circuit with several corners. It is great for improving your bike skills and fitness, while being a lot of fun, as it generates a “festival” type atmosphere – great for spectators. (more…)
Reminder about the track league on wednesday night… last week had a good turnout, and the women had their separate league. Although there is also the option for some to jump in with the men’s groups if they wish. This Wednesday should see another great turnout, guaranteed adrenalin fix!!! Be at the track in sundrive at 6.30pm if you need to rent a bike and to sign on. Racing starts at 7pm. Directions HERE
