The first 2 laps of the champs were different to our usual races, without attacks or testing of each other; the home riders anticipating perhaps the steep climb which characterised the circuit, and the presence of the top girls who we knew would be dishing out the hurt when we reached it! Following the National Championships we have our 2008 champions… in the TT we have Olivia Dillon, who travelled over from USA to race, who was 18sec clear of national record holder Heather Wilson, with Louise Moriarty taking third.

Despite 13 hours travelling to and from Merchtem - the Leinster Team performed very well in Belgium, with two top 30 results for Orla Hendron in a stacked field of quality riders.
Louise Moriarty finished a very credible 50th place in a very strong field of riders in the Tour de Grande Montréal last Thursday. The GC on the 5th and final stage saw Louise finishing in good company, only 1min 54 seconds down on leader Judith Arndt. She finished 1 place behind GB’s Emma Pooley, who finished in the top 10 in the world championships last year. Good company!! Well done to Louise – what a great showing for Women’s Cycling in Ireland. Especially considering this was following weeks of her completing her College exams!
Tomorrow morning a Leinster Team will travel to Belgium to race in Kermesses on both Saturday and Sunday. Kermesses are a different type of race to those we are used to back in Ireland, as they are fast and flat circuits around a town.
Coming into the final stage of Le Tour du Grand Montréal, Louise Moriary (UCD) is sitting in 7th position in the GC, only 13 seconds down on 1st place. This result is increasingly impressive given the strength of the field – yesterday’s race was won by recent World Cup winner Judith Arndt. Check out the full results here
