Women’s Commission support for Bike for Life programme

The Women’s Cycling Commission is delighted to announce that they will be supporting the “Bike for Life” programme under the Sport Ireland “Women in Sport” initiative by hosting our own series of training sessions for beginner and novice riders. The “Bike for Life” programme caters for all cyclists, from those that haven’t touched their bike in years to those that want to advance their skills.

More information on the Bike For Life Programme here.

This special edition of the Bike for Life Programme is delivered by the Women’s Cycling Commission and is aimed specifically at women. The focus of the programme is on learning or advancing your cycling skills and meeting new cycling interested people, so the programme is centred around the group spin.

The Bike for Life programme is primarily based on road cycling but some of our leaders are off-road and track cycling experts, so provided there is sufficient interest we offer:

  • Introduction to Mountain Biking in one of our nearby mountain bike trail centres(Three Rock in South Dublin or Ballinastoe in Wicklow – bike rental available)
  • Introduction to Track cycling in Sundrive velodrome at Eamonn Ceannt Park, Sundrive Road, Dublin 12  (bike rental available)
  • Sessions in Corkagh Park (Newlands Cross, Dublin), Ireland’s only purpose built Cycle Track providing a safe, traffic free, environment in which to learn skills, improve fitness, train and race.

Our first programme will be centred in the Dublin / Leinster region, but any rider who is interested should contact us so that we can plan future programmes elsewhere.

Technical Information:

The programme is made up of 8 sessions and will be delivered over a period of 6-8 weeks by members of the Women’s Cycling Commission. This is a female only programme and minimum age of participants is 16 years. The programme will start before Christmas and run over the winter months. Exact dates and locations of the training sessions will be decided depending on interest.

Leaders are certified (Foundation, Level 1 or Ride Leader) by Cycling Ireland or have some previous experience leading cycling groups. Maximum participant to leader ratio is 8:1. The cost for a participant is €15 and includes insurance, a Bike for Life training log book, water bottle and cycling buff. Bikes are not provided.

This is a great opportunity for any woman wanting to pick up or rediscover cycling in a safe, welcoming and social environment, meet new like-minded people and to learn the skills and techniques to make cycling a safe and rewarding experience for you.
